How to resize an image for LinkedIn

  1. Choose a size. Pick where the image will go, such as your profile banner, profile photo, or a post.
  2. Add and position your image. Drop, paste, or choose an image. Drag it and zoom to choose what fills the frame, or switch to "Fit whole image" to keep everything in view. Turn on the overlay to see what LinkedIn covers.
  3. Download. Choose JPG or PNG and download the image. To get every LinkedIn size at once, download them all as a .zip file.

Tips for each type of image

Profile banner

The banner is 1584 × 396 pixels, a 4:1 shape. Your profile photo covers the lower left, and the mobile app shows the banner smaller, so keep text and logos in the centre or right half and make them large enough to read on a phone.

Profile photo

Upload at least 400 × 400 pixels. LinkedIn shows it as a circle, so the corners are cut off. Centre your face, leave a little space above your head, and use a plain background so the photo stands out at small sizes.

Company logo and cover

Use a square logo of 400 × 400 pixels with some space around it, and a cover image of 1128 × 191 pixels. The logo overlaps the lower left of the cover, so avoid putting text there.

Post images

Landscape images of 1200 × 627 pixels suit link previews and wide photos. Square (1080 × 1080 pixels) and portrait (1080 × 1350 pixels) images take up more space in the feed, which helps on mobile. Keep any text on the image short and large.

Carousels, articles and events

Make carousel slides 1080 × 1350 pixels, then combine them into a PDF and upload it as a document post. Article and newsletter covers are 1920 × 1080 pixels, and event covers are 1600 × 900 pixels.

Frequently asked questions

What size is the LinkedIn banner?

The LinkedIn profile banner (background photo) is 1584 × 396 pixels, a 4:1 ratio. The company page cover is 1128 × 191 pixels.

Why does my LinkedIn banner look cropped on mobile?

The mobile app shows the banner smaller and places your profile photo over part of it, so detail near the lower left and the edges can be hidden. Turn on the overlay in this tool and keep important text and logos inside the safe area.

What is the best image size for a LinkedIn post?

There is no single best size. Use 1200 × 627 pixels for landscape images and link previews, 1080 × 1080 pixels for square images, or 1080 × 1350 pixels for portrait images, which take up the most space in the feed.

What size is a LinkedIn carousel slide?

A common choice is 1080 × 1350 pixels (4:5) or 1080 × 1080 pixels (square). LinkedIn carousels are uploaded as a PDF document, so make every slide the same size before you combine them.

Should I use JPG or PNG?

Use JPG for photos, because the files are much smaller. Use PNG for logos, screenshots, and images with text, because it keeps edges sharp and supports transparency.

What is the maximum file size for LinkedIn images?

Limits vary by image type and LinkedIn changes them from time to time. Profile photos and banners can be up to 8 MB. Keeping images under 5 MB is a safe target, and this tool warns you if a file is larger.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Your image is resized in your browser and never leaves your device. Nothing is sent to Ambo or stored.

Does resizing remove photo metadata?

Yes. The downloaded image is a new file, so camera details and location data from the original photo are not included.

Give your team on-brand images to share

Ambo gives employees ready-to-share posts and images that match your brand, and shows which content drives results on LinkedIn.
